The Do It Yourself Method

For many people considering doing some remodeling one option is to do it themselves. These adventurous souls are willing to give up a large portion of their free time acting as their own project designer, draftsman,  cabinetry designer,  Material specifier, purchasing agent, job superintendent, lead carpenter, rough in plumber, concrete contractor, mason, framer, HVAC installer, door and window installer, roofer, rough-in electrician, sheetrock hanger, taper, texturer, sheather, lather, stucco applicator, painter, cabinet installer, trim carpenter, countertop installer, tile installer, inspection sitter(as may as 8 that will occur only during normal working hours), and warranty holder among other things that an individual project may require

Very few people who are not full time professional contractors would achieve any actual savings on their projects, especially if they value their own time. If they subcontract the most complex segments of the work (plumbing and electrical almost certainly for most) they will pay the same retail rate whether they had a general contractor running the job or not. General contractors buy at wholesale and sell at retail but they apply knowledge, experience, and acumen that is generally worth more than the value of the price spread. That is why they get the better price. They know what order the project tasks should follow. They provide clear instruction and scheduling information to the subcontractor. Another important question to ask if you are considering the do it yourself route is whether a subcontractor is likely to give better service to a one time shot homeowner project or to a general contractor who provides a regular income stream to that subcontractor If you possess the knowledge and the skills noted, or are willing to acquire them we would be happy to accept your cabinet order as a dealer for any of the three fantastic lines of quality custom and semi-custom cabinetry in traditional face frame construction
